The question was asked:  "Do headlights for countries where driving is
done on the left side of the road (e.g. Britain) have different
patterns?"

Yes.  While living in europe, I bought a motorcycle, and I discussed
the purchase (before buying) with BMW dealers in several countries.
The dealer in London pointed out that for driving on the continent and
in the U.S.A. I would have to replace the headlight lens (BMWs do not
use sealed-beam headlights).  Two types of lens are available; one is a
mirror image (left-to-right reversal) of the other.
