Thanks for the replies.  I was told by the examiner that all that was
necessary was for him to attach a note and list PENDING in the
temporary certificate.  However, he also said that both the
certificate number AND the SSN would stay in the database.  It seems
that purging the SSN would take more effort.  He suggested that I
write to Oklahoma.  When filing for my private I didn't have time to
think about the application form.  It turns out that the top part of
the form is supposed to explain this business about using or not using
the SSN.  That section is meant to be torn off before being submitted
and both the FBO and the examiner had a stack of them already torn off
to make them 8.5 x 11.  Hardly anyone gets to read it.

Anyhow, I was less interested in my own privacy than in exercising the
bureaucracy and reminding everyone that it has not yet been decided to
institute a UID.
