Finishing a long ride with only one clip >>is distinctly unpleasant. There is however a "mini-toe clip" which is designed to be used without leather straps. It keeps your foot positioned correctly on the pedal but does not provide the same downward force necessary to keep a cleat engaged. It is a destinct advantage over no clip however and it is very easy to remove your foot. I think of it as "training wheels" for real toe clips. The mini clip came with my "Sekai 2400".
