Do you not wear a seatbelt either. You seem to forget that it is not you that will be the cause of an accident but more likely a driver who will say "I never saw him". Any number of things can cause an accident and result in a "header". I was on a century about a month ago and there was a guy who did a header onto a pile of large rocks (the kind along the ocean at a breakwall), he had a helmet on, but is wasn't strapped on. I never got the full details of his injury, but I know it was serious. Unfortunately it was his fault. He was in a pace line a swerved to avoid something and hit the seawall. If you feel that "It will never happen to me" then by all means don't buy a helmet. But for your sake I hope that Saturday afternoon drunk never finds you. Bruce Beisel
