We are leaving from the SF Bay Area and riding north via I-5, hopefully bound for Canada. Looking at the maps, I see what might be an interesting highway to follow: US 97, which branches off from I-5 at Weed, CA, and appears to hug the east side of the Cascade Range, thru central Oregon and into Washington. It looks interesting because its so out-of-the-way. Anyone out there have any familiarity with this road? Are there any reasons we SHOULDN'T go that way? Mailed response is fine.
