Last year I was paying $308 (including heat) for a nice one bedroom there. In San Francisco (without rent controls) if you mention a figure like $308 everyone will laugh in your face. I am now paying a share of $850 (heat not included!) for a two-bedroom in SF. My friends in Boston/Cambridge who have two-bedrooms are paying $500, $410, $575. One has a three-bedroom for $640. Tell me about how tough it is in Cambridge. I'm tired of having people exaggerate the alleged negative effects of rent control because the idea of a socially responsible government scares them silly.
