Come on.  I refuse to believe that Hitler was elected purely and
simply on a "Juden und Hunden verboten" platform.  Don't forget
that Germany was deep in the throes of the depression, and was also
still smarting from its defeat in WWI and from the aftermath of
that defeat.  Hitler promised jobs, order (remember the uprisings
in 1919--the German people certainly did), and a return to
greatness for Germany.  

While Hitler saw the Jews (collectively) as among the main villains
in Germany's defeat and subsequent state of affairs, the average
German differentiated between the House of Rothschild (whom he
detested) and Samuel Cohen, the bookseller in the next street, whom
he treated as another member of the community.

Also, I would like to point out that Stalin was not particularly
noted for his fondness towards Jews.  Jews suffered out of all
proportion to their percentage of the population during the purge
trial (consider the "Doctors' Trial" of the late 30's, with the
vast majority of the defendants being Jews) and also the refusal of
the Red Army during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising to lift a finger in
defense of the Warsaw Jews.
