Bravo, Chris Prael. I like the way you put that. Why is it that people who go around mouthing words like "social maturity" and "social responsibility" act like it only applies to others? "Oh, you have to share that with me cuz I have a need for it." Ever heard the story of the ant and the grasshopper? I get so disgusted at people who move to California (who asked you to come here anyway?) and then proceed to complain about how terrible it is here. They complain about the cost of housing without seeming to realize they are the cause of shortages and high prices (the first causes the second under normal circumstances). They don't seem to realize the irony of their situation. They want things to cost the same as where they came from when they could get that by going back to where they came from. I hear responses like "this is where the jobs are" or "the weather's so nice here". That's true, and that's why it's more expensive here. > The question is not how hard housing is to get but how much it costs when > you get it. I would loudly disagree. If you can't get it the price is meaningless. Maybe you'd like it in Russia, where everything is priced reasonably (but you have to wait in lines for days and they often run out) > paranoid worship of property I'd bet the person saying such phrases doesn't own any property but just sponges off others. No one disagrees with the premise that renters have rights and landlords should respect them, but landlords have rights too and that includes the right to charge whatever they damn well please. Don't tread on our property rights, paranoid though they may seem to you. Ah well. You should see what Oregonians say about Californians. -- Phil Ngai (408) 749-5286 {ucbvax,decwrl,ihnp4,allegra,intelca}!amd70!phil
