I do not deny his evidence and could add examples of my own (I too tutor math, and have felt the joy of tutoring apt students, both male and female). I feel that it is almost certain that social preasures play some role in the observed differences. Whether they are the only cause, or even the major cause is something that can only be determined by careful study. If such studies have been done I am not aware of them (a statement which may mean very little, I have not actively researched the area). Insufficient evidence does not imply no evidence. Mr. Cranston, words like "fool" and "blind" have little place in serious debate and certainly should not be used before positions are clarified. Had I replied in a similar vein my article might have started " Ben Cranston, imbecile that he is, is incapable of making the simple distiction between no evidence and insufficient evidence..." At the very least you might have tried mailing me before posting your invectives to the net. William Hughes
