Or don't the "civilized" coasts have zoning laws that distinguish between rental property and owner-occupied property? Not that that helps much, given that our town council is composed of real estate agents. Back onto the topic of rent control, we (given the above, obviously) don't have any such thing. Prices tend to fluctuate with the market. Last time I moved, there were few apartments, and prices were high. I got incredibly lucky (a friend of a friend of my roommates girlfriend was moving, and etc.), and found what I considered a bargain. This time, (after the oil bust, as OU starts down the drain) I found a nicer place for a nearly identical price with no trouble at all. In OK city (just north of here), things are really bad. People can't seem to rent property at all. I've seen things like 3 months free on a years lease. Rent control? Who needs it!
