In the interest of brevity (what brevity could be salvaged, anyway) and to keep on the point, I rather glossed over the issue of what rights we DO have. I was implying, perhaps illucidly, that I agree with the framers of the Declaration of Independence that as human beings, we should enjoy without *deliberate human interference, the freedoms I mentioned, acts of nature and irresponsible human behavior notwithstanding. I am certainly aware that these rights are denied more often than extended, but considering the context of human history, we are perhaps progressing as a species more impressively than it sometimes appears (and perhaps not). At any rate, my main intent was to distinguish between inherent human rights (observed or not) and rights to material goods. Ray Simard Loral Instrumentation
