Real life has a close parallel: cutesy US female track star (Mary Decker) falls for British hulk (his name is Slaby, I believe). Mary Decker deserves far better adjectives than "cutesy", and her current SO no doubt is much more than just a "hulk", but on the surface the analogy holds.
