Yes, it's mentioned in the Rogue's Vade-Mecum.  Gerard Donlon used
to do it all the time.  You can also manage without Scare Monster,
if you generate something smaller than Jabberwocks.

Waste of a wand?  Maybe, but it certainly makes the going easier.
