Well if you have access to a DEC 125 GIGI terminal I may have a suitable answer. I've put together an alternate character set to be used while playing rogue. It gives you potions and scrolls instead of ! and ?, real stairs, rings, walls and corridors. But the real effect is the monsters. Snakes and hobgoblins that glide across the screen at you. The lower case characters are mapped to an old english type font and the upper case are the nasty monsters. This makes for a few flakes(Exp,Gold,etc...). But overall it creates a semi-decent playing atmosphere. I don't know how many GIGI's are out there, but if you're interested, drop me a note.
