Goldberg is the current ACM secretary and a member of the Council and the Executive committee. Of all her contributions to the ACM in the past 15 years, the best was while Goldberg was Editor-in-Chief of the "Computing Surveys" (79-82). Adele Goldberg was a major critic of the attempted NSA "censorship" of various ACM papers. to quote: "As Editor-in-Chief of COMPUTING SURVEYS for 4 years, it was my responsibility to respond to the NSA request to have ACM editors submit papers in certain areas for parallel government review. I was outspoken in addressing this breach of the author/editor relationship in the handling of papers for ACM review, and instrumental in establishing the ACM position that protects editors from third-party demands." Her handling of the problem was both fair and professional. ACM needs a president like Adele Goldberg. chongo /\../\
