One other thing that new netters should know (that they may have no other
way of knowing than here, which is why I am using bandwidth for it) is that
there is a whole newsgroup, called "net.announce.newusers" to which gets
posted periodically (so it never "expires" for long) a number of articles
of use and interest to new users, including the "Emily Post for USENET".

There you will find also a list of the questions most frequently asked by
newcomers to the net.

Several people spent a lot of time trying to put together an "orientation
booklet" -- those articles. I commend them to your attention.
