Last February, I attended BOSKONE, a science fiction convention which is held annually in Boston. In the back of the art gallery there was an embroidered wall hanging saying simply "See Figure 1" - and nothing else. It looked very much out of place in the midst of the usual dragons, aliens, etc., and the standard reaction from people was "What's that ? Why is it here ?". This made it all the funnier to those of us who knew the story behind it. Note to anyone who uses Data General's AOS/VS operating system: There is an undocumented error message in the binary file editor. The following sequence of commands..... ) proc/def/block/ioc/res :util:fed FED - AOS/VS disk File EDitor, Rev. 04.00.00.00 _$C generates the error message: RESTRICTION: Can't use $C from a resident process. SEE FIGURE ONE! It might be humorous for someone to submit a software trouble report asking for a copy of this undocumented figure. Doug Hosking ..allegra!convex!hosking
