Speaking of The Soviet Union.  There are a large number of recient Russian
Emigres in Los Angeles.  I have it on good authority that they have
opened a Bakery, to supply themselves with bread of the type that they are used
to.  So that they will feel really at home, the bakery runs out of bread
at 0900 everyday.
