     Hold on, now--what copyright violation?  If you check the back of the
title page on many books (one of my hobbies), you'll find a statement that
copying excerpts for the purpose of reviewing the book is allowed--the
New York Times Book Review does it all the time, and no one gets bent
out of shape.  I agree that posting the entirety of some work to the
net without permission (say, a song, poem, or short story) is a flagrant
violation and should be discouraged, at least.  Posting three excerpts
from a much longer work to let people know  1) the work exists, and
2) what it's like  is an entirely different matter.
     We do indeed have to be sensitive to copyright, but we must also
recognize that not *all* reproductions of such material are violations.
