I came in on this discussion late, but...
Motorola also makes an Ethernet controller for Versabus, the
M68KVM33.  It also uses the AM7990 LANCE and AM7991 SIO.
It has XNS software, and supposedly runs at 200 1K-byte
packets per second (Motorola figure).
