I should have thought to cite this paper myself in my earlier follow-up:

    Donald E. Knuth: "Structured Programming With GOTO Statements",
    *Computing Surveys*, vol. 6, num. 4, December 1974, p. 261 .. 301.

Definitely worth reading.  Some may consider the title to be misleading
with regard to Knuth's actual attitude toward use of "GOTO"s.
