Their operating system, PVS, supports some rather advanced features, and it appears that Fortran is a high priority language. They have published floating point benchmarks which indicate that their work station runs FTN about 5 times as slow as VAX 11/780 with the FPA under VMS and about 6 times as fast as the Universe 68/05 (no FPU) and 3.5 times as fast as Apollo 68010 with FPU. The only other 16032 workstation i am familiar with, the LMC, uses the HCR Unix op. sys., and according to my benchmarks it runs 10 to 20 times slower than VAX 11/780 Unix (with FPA).
