The Apple II series drives seems to have alot of problems which lead to
blowing the driver chips on the disk controller.  This includes the problem
of pinching the wires as well as, more commonly, a connector which is
improperly inserted (backwards, off by one row) or one which is partially
pulled off by tension on the cable.  Perhaps the solution is to carefully
follow the Apple instructions for assembling the disk drives.
