Dave,
  If you're interested in accessing your mm from pascal, check
the back issues of Byte.  (They put out an index in December 1982,
that would be the quickest way to find the article.)  There was
an article done maybe in 1981-82 that contained an Apple-II Pascal
Unit that interfaced with the micromodem pretty cleanly.  All
code was included in the article.
