C'mon, gimmie a break!! For the majority of the software that I use, 80 column mode is the ONLY way to go. Apple Pascal boots up in 80 columns with no problems whatsoever. (Heck, I've never even seen Pascal in 40 columns!) Applewriter //e, Prodos, and MVP Forth all use the 80 column card without a hitch. The only time you will run into problems with 80 columns is when someone wrote their own character output routines and wrote them especially for the 40 column screen.
