On occasion I've tried to use the V1.0 Pascal Compiler on an IBM XT
with 2 floppies, 10 Mb hard disk, & 640K RAM.  With the hard disk (C:)
as the default and the compiler disk in a floppy (A:) I enter the
command "A:PAS1 filename" and answer all the questions.  Very shortly
comes the message "Compiler out of memory, cannot continue" (or some
such message), and it dies.  When I tried the same thing, but with the
other floppy (B:) as the default, it works OK.  On my PC at home with
2 floppies, I can set up an E-disk as drive C, make it the default, and
it works OK.  In summary, then, the problem is that with either a floppy
or an E-disk as the default drive it works OK, but apparently it can't
find any space left on a hard disk with (at the moment) 2 Mb available.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for this difficulty?  Please!

I also understand that there is a patch to the compiler so it can live
on the hard disk and be able to find its neseccary files there.  Is that
part of the above problem?  Can anyone tell me what the patch for that is?

This is to compile a fairly large program, and there's barely enough room
on the floppy for the compiler's working and intermediate files.  In
addition, PAS2 keeps the drive active for about 10 - 20 minutes as its
doing its thing!

Any help will be muchly appreciated!!!
