Washington, Computer Sci Lines: 25 Yes! Those friendly people at Archive International and BFD Records are at it again. To recap: First the 10 volume Pebbles series documenting various areas of 60's obscurity (punk, acid, surf, mod, ...). Then Vols. 1-3 of the Highs in the Mid-60's series, documenting the Los Angeles scene from 1965 to 1967. Then Pebbles Vols. 11 and 12 featuring more obscure 60's sides. Then Highs Vols. 4 and 5 documenting the Chicago and Michigan scenes, respectively. And now, as if that weren't enough, Highs in the Mid-60's has been extended to a 7-volume set: Volume 6 is "Michigan Part 2", and Volume 7 is (near and dear to my heart) "The Northwest." I don't know where they come up with this material--but it is virtually all of fairly good quality (some of the discs they use for mastering are a bit noisy), and well worth the $6.99 or $7.99 you're likely to have to shell out. I'm particularly enthusiastic about Highs Vol. 7 as it contains an obscure Northwest track I've been looking for for many years: Mr. Lucky and the Gamblers "Take a Look at Me." Plenty of good >obscure< Northwest sound on this LP--a good supplement to previously issued Northwest collections. ... uw-june!eli
