Lines: 14 There's an interesting article on Cardew in an issue of the New Yorker published sometime in the last year. Yes, he did die in a car crash, but I'm not sure when (he was dead when the article came out). I've heard a section of one of his choral works performed at the Relache Center in Philadelphia: an a capella cantata based on a quotation from the Confucian classic THE GREAT LEARNING and employing (of course) ama- tuer singers. It surprised me: I found it not only interesting but engrossing & even beautiful, even though the musical materials consisted of musical recitations of each phrase of the text. I don't know of any recordings of Cardew, but then I haven't really looked. Ron Rizzo
