After three months (THREE MONTHS!!) I realized that he could not read music AT ALL. He did not know the notes, the rests, the rhythms, time signatures, or anything. He was too embarrassed to admit this. What he did was to persuade his teacher to play everything for him, a little at a time. He had a perfect memory for anything that I played. Until I caught him, I thought that he was just a slow starter on each new piece. He seemed never to practice anything until he had had it for 2 lessons. - Toby Robison (not Robinson!) allegra!eosp1!robison decvax!ittvax!eosp1!robison princeton!eosp1!robison
