CS Dept. Lines: 17 I have recently joined the Musical Heritage Society and noted, in their catalogue, the integral recording of the Mozart Piano Sonatas by A. Balsam. I have not heard him--either live or recorded--and would appreciate any reviews (by mail, please) on this interpretation. The best recordings I know of selected sonatas are by Edwin Fischer, Landowska and Gieseking (the latter may have recorded them all if I'm correct). As to Haydn--I have Gould's wonderful interpretation of the 6 last sonatas, Landowska's exciting performance of #34, 35, 37, 40 and 49 on piano and harpsichord, and Brendel's, of Hob XVI:20 and 49, which I find shallow and unpleasant. I have heard Bilson live on fortepiano and have no intention of acquiring his recordings. Any recommendations out there? (mail please). Thank you. --Michel ARPA: mf@cornell UUCP: {decvax allegra ihnp4 vax135 ...}!cornell!mf Bitnet: CRNLCS%MF
