I will accept this argument as a short term explanation of why such a feature does not exist. But not as a reason for rejecting such a proposal out of hand. I agree that newsgroups should be deleted (expired) automatically by the software. Currently newsgroups, once created, hang around forever in B news. This is wasteful, annoying, and probably can be changed (for instance, notes already has an automatic expiration facility). --- How newsgroup creation should be handled is less obvious. The real problem here seems to be that the news organization method (using only newsgroups to classify articles) is not powerful enough. The notes system addresses this problem some what (by grouping responses within newsgroups), but there is still a long way to go here.
