If there's one thing the net doesn't need, it's another unnecessary top level group.* Personally, I see no need for a statistics group at all. Where are all the messages about statistics cluttering up net.math? This is why subgroups are created -- an excellent recent example being net.tv.soaps, created because a lot of net.tv readers were uninterested in the subtopic but it was generating a lot of traffic. I don't see this happening with statistics. Don't create it unless you have a better case than "we felt net.math was inappropriate".** And if it does end up being created, do it right.
