Some do, some don't. However, any cat with a collar should wear a collar that can expand if it gets caught while the cat is being cat-like, e.g. climbing a tree, crawling around in a small space, etc. There are leather collars available with a piece of elastic sewn in just for this purpose. One of my cat books suggests this for an ID for a cat: an collar made out of regular white elastic, sewn together to form a circle. Write the appropriate info with permanent ink on the collar. It may not be as annoying as a regular collar and tags to cats who don't like collars. Here in Multnomah County, Oregon, cats are required to be licensed.
