  For about two years, we kept our cat inside,
thinking just that, she would let us know if
she wanted out.  just last year, she started
escaping outside, so now we let her outside
once in a while.  My point is, our cat never
had a taste of the 'outdoors' for the first
year or two of her life, and she made the
decision that she wanted to try the outdoors
and see if she liked it.  Cats are smart animals
and will let you know if they need/want anything.
