For instance, if the lens ranged from f1.8 to f16, the optimal f-stop would be 2/3rds of the way to f16, or about f5.6(?). Other things that affect sharpness: - Another article compared 35mm with large format film. Obviously, the large format was sharper (for the price it better be!). - A tripod \ - Mirror lockup |- these are pretty obvious though - Subject lighting / ...bob garmise...at&t bell labs, columbus...
