I might also mention that being apart does tend to create tension when you *are* together (at least in my experience) since both partners tend to try *too* hard to make the most of the little time they have together; this creates stress and dissension (sometimes). Sometimes, rather than that big do-all see-all go-everywhere weekend, you just need to lounge around the house together, watch the baseball game on the tube, do the dishes, and just be mundane together. It helps. Well, it least it helps around here. You might try the old "surprise visit" bit too, as in: "Hi, I'm packed, see you in XX hours."
