I was simply incensed at the original article and the implications that were openly stated in the followup AS SUCH--I do not believe that Randy actually believes them (I did read the line where he says, "This concept disgusts me."). But I find even the speculation insulting--and perhaps am more touchy because I do admit that in some cases it may be true. (I have watched it happen--seen a girl flirt with a guy and enchant him so much that he did half her programming homework for her.) IN SOME CASES. I wanted to point out that any woman who read this discussion would be more likely to have my point of view, seeing as how she was already taking Randy's suggestion. (Note the "more likely" qualifier--dissension welcome :-) But there are MANY women who are interested in computer types because of the intelligence that profession connotes. I have never been interested in a dumb jock. It certainly isn't an issue of power/money; athletes might be regarded as competitive in that area. But nothing compares to the intellectual agility and creativity that I meet in many people on this net. It is that that I wanted to be a part of, to take on for myself, not just to admire in someone else. When I meet a man, I want to be able to share with him, to be on equal footing with him. Now, all this aside, there are unfortunately people of both sexes who fall into the stereotype; the jock who is just looking for an arm ornament and occasional squeeze, and the woman who is out to catch that man so she can marry him and have him open her pickle jars. All I'm saying is, Charlie, that you're not likely to find an explanation for the latter opinion among the women participants of this net; by the definition I set out before (with Randy's help), none of these types are around to give answer. Let's hope it stays that way, eh? :-) Wendy "Flamethrower" Nather [Burnin' down the house. . .~]
