I've seen some women here fawn over an assistant when their program bombs but never seen nor heard of anyone courting a knowledgeable type. The BMOC still seem to be the football players. And if they're after money, there's a med school just down the road, not to mention a business school and an engineering school a quarter mile from the computer center. If I was after money, I'd forget about the guys trying to get their program to run in less core and check out the engineering students. Another point: I do not consider many of the hard core computer people here the most social of people. I know from looking at myself that, unless I am careful, I tend to be fairly anti-social due to my chosen profession. For the record, I am male, work at the computer center as an assistant and as a consultant, and am a computer science major. I think that the people who wrote the article found a few select cases and generalized. -- David C.
