     Why not point out a new wrinkle to the Startrek universe and the question
of chain of command? In addition to the T.V. series, motion pictures, books,
comic books and T.V. cartoons, there is now (actually has been for about nine
months) another source of Startrek material. This is Startrek, The Role Playing
Game by FASA Corp. They recieved a license from Paramont Pictures to do the
game. They have produced a very good game (somewhat expensive though). They
have gone to great lenghts to remain true to the 'Startrek Universe'. Due to
the nature of role playing games, they have been forced to add many details
that are not covered otherwise. This brings me to the question of chain of
command.
     In the basic rulebook, page 90, they list the chain of command as:

			Captain,
			First Offices,
			Chief Engineer,
			Chief Navigator,
			Chief Helmsman,
			Chief Communications Officer.

     The obvious (spelling?) thing about this list, is that the Chief Medical
Officer (McCoy) is not on it. But, on page 33 it states that the Chief Medical
Officer does go to the Star Fleet Academy and Command School as do all the
others in the list above.

     Has anyone seen the boardgame, Star Fleet Battles? This is a large and
complicated game detailing battles between starships. In the few years it 
has been around, they have added a lot of material to the 'Startrek Universe'.
All of this material centers around spaceships, but does include some new
alien races not seen elsewhere. By the way this games is produces by Task
Force Games.
