	There is no barrier of any sort at the "edge" of the galaxy, but
	somewhere beyond the limits of the observable universe there is
	quite possibly a "domain wall" where the forces of nature
	(strong, weak, electromagnetic) get rearranged.  If it weren't
	so far away it would make a good sf topic.
