In one seen, the submarine shuts of all power and send up debris; pretending to be hit. Similarly, the episode "Arena" was based on a short story by the same name, written by Fredric Brown. That story appears in "The Science Fiction Hall of Fame, Volume I". In it, a man picked at random from the Earth fleet by a powerful force battles a member of the opposing fleet - a red spherical object one yard in diameter. Its very good story; read it if you can. I'm not sure about this one but I believe that "The Doomsday Machine", by Norman Spinrad is supposed to be based on "Moby Dick".
