I got around the problem of Ikonas diagnostics using octal I/O by
(*blech*) putting octal I/O back into the F77 runtime library. This was
under 4.1C. I don't know if the F77 runtime changed in going from 4.1C to
4.2.

The Ikonas acceptance test is very pretty, but it's not clear that it was
worth it...
