I finally got around to playing with curses, and discovered the
following (rather nasty) problem: there is no handy function for
doing string input with editing functions (backspace, linekill, backword,
etc.).

Has somebody out there written such a beast? It doesn't look all that
painful, but I'd rather not reinvent that wheel if I can avoid it.
