The all-electronic models, which are controlled from a keypad, are the only ones susceptible to this type of behavior. Some Amana and Litton models are available with mechanical knobs to control the duty cycle (cook control) and time settings. These models might be a better bet if you're concerned about this problem. My Sears microwave has electronic controls, but I've had no difficulty with it starting up by itself. Maybe it was just one model in particular that had the problem. -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish
