Subject:  How to transfer a Mac file?

Is there a standard format for transmiting the whole of a Macintosh file,
both the data and the resource parts?  Is the only format sort of buried
inside MacTerm?  I'd sure like to be able to transfer files and programes
over the phones to other computers. . . .

On a related note, anybody hear of a Macintosh user's group getting started?
