The primary purpose for the names for the first four "new-generation" VWs
(for which read "cheaper Audis") was, from what I've heard, to name them
after the four winds:

	Passat (Dasher) - "passatwinde" means "trade winds", thus the west
	wind

	Scirocco - an east wind

	Golf - "golf" meaning "gulf" in German, refers to a south wind from
	the gulf

	Polo - (this one is a bit dodgy) refers to the north wind from the
	poles

I guess "Jetta" refers to the jet stream, and "Santana" (Quantum sedan -
"Passat" and "Santana" are like "Golf" and "Jetta") refers to the
guitarist :-).

Anybody have better info on this?
