The "badger" Bernard Hinault was second at about 9 minutes with American Greg LeMond 3rd at about 11 minutes. The Scot, Robert Millar, finished fourth at 14 minutes. In the Women's event Boulder's Marianne Martin took the yellow jersey with a three minute edge over some French woman. This was the first ever woman's Tour De France and unfortunately was marred by the absence of virtually all the top women racers. Where were they? At the Coors Classic preparing for the Olympics. It should be interesting next year to see if the two races can co-exist and not drain each other of talent.
