I have the feeling that United's mechanical problems are probably not faked. A friend of mine, who's uncle is a mechanic for United, refuses to fly United because her uncle tells her that they DON'T have sufficient maintenance for the planes. The airlines have long been having problems with their unions ever since deregulation occurred. I'm not sure if they had problems with their mechanics too, but if so, then they might not have enough trained individuals looking after the planes--- or they might not be hiring sufficient staff to keep them in tip-top condition. That would account for the frequent mechanical problems you hear about of late. Joy joy@mit-vax (ARPA) {allegra,decvax}!mit-vax!joy
