I've had three ``experiences'' with VMS, all of them bad. Then there was that year beating RSTS/E into submission... I have much more faith in OS's for DEC machines that were NOT written at DEC (e.g. TOPS-20, UNIX). In my opinion, AT&T is making the worst mistake of its existence: System V, and DEC has made a wonderful decision: 4.2BSD. Perhaps IBM will make a similarly enlightened decision for its line of computers, although there is some question about their hardware being sane enough to hack it. There is no question that DEC hardware (with minor nits here and there) can hack it quite well. Software? Well, see the last of the three riddles... P.P.S.
