I discovered (by being corrected by the locals in Southern Germany) that
Liechtenstein (the country) is indeed spelled "ie" and pronouned "ee".

Lichtenstein (spelled "i", pronounced like our short "i")  is a city in
southern Baden-Wuerttemberg, ~100 mi from Liechtenstein.

They take the difference in spelling and pronounciation pretty seriously.
You get corrected if you say one when you mean the the other.
